Why restore headlights

Better clarity, cleaner appearance, stronger road presence.

Modern headlight lenses are usually polycarbonate. Over time, UV exposure, road film, chemicals, washing damage and weathering break down the outer layer. This causes hazing, yellowing, dullness and reduced light transmission.

Autoproject NZ offers professional headlight restoration for mild haze through to heavy oxidation. We assess the lens condition first, then recommend the right level of correction and protection.

VisibilityImprove headlight clarity for night driving and poor-weather use.
AppearanceRemove the aged yellow look from the front of the vehicle.
ValueA smart alternative before replacing costly headlight units.
Hamilton and Waikato driving

Built for dark roads, rain, fog and rural commutes.

Hamilton and Waikato drivers deal with open-road commuting, wet winter evenings, foggy mornings, rural roads and unlit streets. If your headlights are cloudy or yellowed, restoring clarity can make your vehicle look newer and help you feel more confident after dark.

Night driving

More usable light through the lens.

Oxidised plastic blocks and scatters light. Restoration removes the degraded outer layer, then refines the lens so more light can pass through cleanly.

Waikato conditions

Road film, UV and weather exposure.

Daily driving, rural dust, bug splatter, sun exposure and harsh washing can accelerate headlight haze. Protection after restoration helps slow the return of oxidation.

Headlight restoration packages

Choose the right correction level for your headlights.

Pricing depends on lens size, condition, previous coatings and how deep the oxidation or scratching is. We can inspect the headlights first and recommend the best option.

Our process

A careful restoration process, not a quick wipe-on fix.

Every headlight is different. Some need only polishing. Others need staged sanding and UV protection. The goal is to restore clarity without damaging surrounding paint, rubber seals or trims.

Inspect

We check the level of oxidation, scratches, peeling coatings, cracking and overall lens condition before recommending a package.

Mask and prep

Paintwork and trim around the headlight are protected before correction begins, especially for sanding and clear coat work.

Sand and polish

Oxidised layers are removed where needed, then the lens is refined through polishing stages to improve clarity and gloss.

Protect

Depending on the package, we finish with sealant, UV clear coat or headlight PPF to help preserve the result.

What can be restored

Common headlight problems we correct.

Most exterior lens defects can be improved if the damage is on the surface. Internal condensation, broken mounts, deep internal cracking or failed LED units may need replacement instead.

Why Autoproject NZ

Detailing-level care for headlights, paint and protection.

We treat headlights as part of the full vehicle finish. That means careful masking, correct abrasives, controlled polishing and protection that suits the condition of the lens.

We do not guess the process.

Light haze and severe oxidation need different restoration methods. We inspect first so you do not pay for the wrong service.

Protection is part of the result.

Unprotected headlights can fade again. Sealant, UV clear coat and PPF options help preserve clarity for longer.

Paint-safe preparation.

We mask surrounding panels and trims before sanding or polishing so the correction is focused on the lens, not the vehicle paint.
