Headlight Restoration Hamilton
Cloudy, yellow or faded headlights do more than make your car look tired. They reduce clarity, weaken night-time visibility and can make an otherwise tidy vehicle look neglected. Autoproject restores headlight lenses with controlled sanding, polishing and protective coating options for a cleaner, safer finish.
Clear headlights help the vehicle look sharper, drive safer at night and avoid the cost of replacing expensive headlight assemblies when restoration is possible.
Better clarity, cleaner appearance, stronger road presence.
Modern headlight lenses are usually polycarbonate. Over time, UV exposure, road film, chemicals, washing damage and weathering break down the outer layer. This causes hazing, yellowing, dullness and reduced light transmission.
Autoproject NZ offers professional headlight restoration for mild haze through to heavy oxidation. We assess the lens condition first, then recommend the right level of correction and protection.
Built for dark roads, rain, fog and rural commutes.
Hamilton and Waikato drivers deal with open-road commuting, wet winter evenings, foggy mornings, rural roads and unlit streets. If your headlights are cloudy or yellowed, restoring clarity can make your vehicle look newer and help you feel more confident after dark.
More usable light through the lens.
Oxidised plastic blocks and scatters light. Restoration removes the degraded outer layer, then refines the lens so more light can pass through cleanly.
Road film, UV and weather exposure.
Daily driving, rural dust, bug splatter, sun exposure and harsh washing can accelerate headlight haze. Protection after restoration helps slow the return of oxidation.
Choose the right correction level for your headlights.
Pricing depends on lens size, condition, previous coatings and how deep the oxidation or scratching is. We can inspect the headlights first and recommend the best option.

A careful restoration process, not a quick wipe-on fix.
Every headlight is different. Some need only polishing. Others need staged sanding and UV protection. The goal is to restore clarity without damaging surrounding paint, rubber seals or trims.
Inspect
We check the level of oxidation, scratches, peeling coatings, cracking and overall lens condition before recommending a package.
Mask and prep
Paintwork and trim around the headlight are protected before correction begins, especially for sanding and clear coat work.
Sand and polish
Oxidised layers are removed where needed, then the lens is refined through polishing stages to improve clarity and gloss.
Protect
Depending on the package, we finish with sealant, UV clear coat or headlight PPF to help preserve the result.
Common headlight problems we correct.
Most exterior lens defects can be improved if the damage is on the surface. Internal condensation, broken mounts, deep internal cracking or failed LED units may need replacement instead.
Detailing-level care for headlights, paint and protection.
We treat headlights as part of the full vehicle finish. That means careful masking, correct abrasives, controlled polishing and protection that suits the condition of the lens.
We do not guess the process.
Light haze and severe oxidation need different restoration methods. We inspect first so you do not pay for the wrong service.
Protection is part of the result.
Unprotected headlights can fade again. Sealant, UV clear coat and PPF options help preserve clarity for longer.
Paint-safe preparation.
We mask surrounding panels and trims before sanding or polishing so the correction is focused on the lens, not the vehicle paint.

Headlight restoration FAQ.
.
How much does headlight restoration cost?
Basic headlight polishing starts from $80 per set. Deluxe sanding and UV clear coat restoration starts from $250 per set. Headlight PPF protection can be added from $150 per set, depending on lens shape and condition.
Can you restore very yellow or cloudy headlights?
Yes, most yellow or cloudy headlights can be significantly improved if the damage is on the outside of the lens. Severe oxidation usually needs sanding, polishing and UV clear coat protection. If the damage is internal, cracked or caused by moisture inside the headlight, replacement may be the better option.
How long does headlight restoration last?
Longevity depends on the lens condition, UV exposure, washing chemicals and protection used. A simple polish and sealant is a lighter maintenance option. A UV clear coat or headlight PPF gives stronger long-term protection.
Is headlight restoration better than replacing headlights?
When the lens damage is external, restoration is usually much more cost-effective than replacing the complete headlight assembly. Replacement may be needed when the lens is cracked, the reflector is damaged, LED units have failed or moisture is trapped inside.
Can you apply PPF to headlights?
Yes. Headlight PPF is available as an add-on for restored or new headlights. It helps protect against stone chips, road wear and UV exposure, especially for vehicles driven regularly on highways and rural Waikato roads.
Do I need to leave the car with you?
Most basic headlight restoration jobs can be completed quickly. Deluxe sanding, UV clear coat or PPF may require more workshop time. We will confirm timing after checking the headlights.
