OTHER EXTERIOR SERVICES
EXTERIOR CAR DETAILING HAMILTON.
A staged exterior reset — safe wash, decontamination, gloss enhancement and optional protection. Autoproject NZ works in a strict order so the paint is cleaned without adding the swirls a rushed wash leaves behind.
Four stages, in the right order, every time.
Order matters on exterior work. Decontaminating before washing, or protecting before the paint is clean, locks defects in. This is the sequence we follow.
Safe wash
Pre-rinse, foam and a two-bucket contact wash with quality mitts and drying towels — a process built to avoid inflicting swirl marks.
Included in every detailDecontamination
Bug removal, iron fallout removal and tar removal to clear exterior contamination that washing alone cannot shift. Clay bar treatment is available as an additional option for bonded contamination.
Clay bar treatment — optional add-onGloss enhancement
Wheels, tyres, glass, trims and exhaust tips detailed, with machine gloss enhancement available to lift depth and reduce light haze.
Enhancement from $450Protection
Spray wax protection is applied as standard. A ceramic paint sealant is available as an optional add-on for longer-lasting protection than wax.
Spray wax included • Ceramic sealant optionalEvery exterior surface, not just the panels.
A finished exterior is judged by its details — the wheel barrels, the glass, the trim edges most washes never touch.
Panels & clearcoat
Washed, decontaminated and finished by condition, with gloss enhancement available for tired or hazy paint.
Wheels & tyres
Faces, barrels and calipers cleaned of brake dust and road film, tyres dressed for a clean, even finish.
Glass & mirrors
Exterior glass cleaned and polished, with water-spot treatment and glass protection options available.
Plastics & trims
Exterior plastics, rubbers and trims cleaned and restored rather than left grey and chalky.
Chrome & badges
Badges, grilles and brightwork detailed by hand — the areas where dirt and polish residue like to hide.
Jambs & sills
Door jambs, boot shuts and sills cleaned so the vehicle looks finished when the doors open, not just when they're shut.
Lock the finish in.
Once the exterior is clean and decontaminated, it is the ideal base for protection — and the best value time to apply it.
Paint enhancement
Machine polishing to lift gloss and reduce light haze and swirls after exterior preparation.
Ceramic / graphene coating
Long-term coatings for easier washing, stronger gloss and durable chemical resistance.
Paint protection film
Premium film for high-impact areas to help protect against stone chips and road wear.
Finishing and repair options.
Selected exterior repairs and custom finishes are assessed individually so we can confirm the right process and price for your vehicle.

Exterior car detailing questions.
Common questions from Hamilton and Waikato customers before booking an exterior detail.
How much does exterior car detailing cost in Hamilton?
Exterior car detailing at Autoproject starts from $99. The final price depends on the vehicle’s size, paint condition and level of contamination. Clay bar treatment, machine polishing, ceramic paint sealant and specialist repairs are optional upgrades. We can inspect your vehicle and confirm the price before beginning.
What is included in an exterior car detail at Autoproject?
Our exterior detail includes a safe pre-rinse, snow foam and contact wash, bug removal, wheel and tyre cleaning, exterior glass, trims, badges, door jambs and spray wax protection. Iron fallout and tar removal are performed where required. Optional upgrades include clay bar treatment, paint enhancement and longer-lasting paint protection.
What is the difference between a car wash and exterior detailing?
A standard car wash mainly removes loose surface dirt. Exterior detailing provides more thorough cleaning of the paint, wheels, tyres, glass, trims, badges and door jambs. It can also remove bugs, tar and iron contamination before applying protection, producing a cleaner and more refined finish.
How long does an exterior car detail take?
A standard exterior detail generally takes several hours. Larger vehicles, heavy road contamination, tar removal, clay bar treatment or paint-enhancement work may require more time. We will provide an estimated completion time after inspecting the vehicle and confirming the treatments it needs.
Will exterior detailing remove swirl marks and scratches?
Cleaning and decontamination alone will not remove scratches from the clear coat. Light swirls and haze may be reduced with machine paint enhancement, available from $450. Deeper scratches may require paint correction, touch-up work or repainting. We inspect the paint first and recommend a realistic solution.
Does every vehicle need clay bar treatment?
No. Clay bar treatment is an optional service recommended when bonded contamination remains after washing and chemical decontamination. We assess the paint first because unnecessary claying can increase the risk of light marring. Vehicles exposed to industrial fallout, overspray or frequent open-road driving may need it more often.
Can you remove bugs, tar and iron fallout from the paint?
Yes. Our decontamination process can remove bug residue, road tar and iron fallout using products and methods selected for the contamination and paint condition. Older bug marks or contamination that has etched into the clear coat may require machine polishing after cleaning.
What protection is included with an exterior detail?
Spray wax protection is included as the standard finish. It enhances gloss, water behaviour and short-term protection after cleaning. A ceramic paint sealant can be added for longer-lasting protection and easier maintenance than conventional spray wax.
Is ceramic paint sealant the same as ceramic coating?
No. Ceramic paint sealant provides longer-lasting protection than conventional wax but is not the same as a professionally applied ceramic or graphene coating. A coating requires more extensive paint preparation and provides greater durability, chemical resistance and long-term ease of maintenance.
How long will the exterior protection last?
Protection durability depends on the product, vehicle use, storage, weather and washing method. Spray wax provides shorter-term protection, while ceramic paint sealant lasts longer when properly maintained. For multi-year protection, consider a professional ceramic or graphene coating package.
Can exterior detailing remove water spots and oxidation?
Light water deposits and surface contamination may improve during exterior detailing. Etched water spots, oxidation and faded paint normally require dedicated water-spot treatment, machine polishing or paint correction. We assess the affected area before recommending the safest treatment.
Is exterior detailing safe for new or ceramic-coated vehicles?
Yes. The washing and decontamination process is adjusted to the vehicle’s paint and existing protection. New vehicles can benefit from removing transport contamination, while coated vehicles require coating-safe products and careful washing to preserve their performance.
How often should I book an exterior car detail?
Most vehicles benefit from professional exterior detailing every three to six months, depending on mileage, storage and washing habits. Vehicles driven frequently on Waikato roads or exposed to bugs, tar, tree sap, industrial fallout and outdoor parking may require attention sooner.
Can you repair stone chips and minor dents during the detail?
Stone-chip repair and paintless dent removal are available as optional services. Suitability depends on the location, depth and condition of the damage. Wheel and caliper painting and chrome-delete services are also available, with pricing confirmed after inspection.
Should I detail my vehicle before applying ceramic coating or PPF?
Yes. The paint must be thoroughly cleaned and properly prepared before ceramic coating, graphene coating or paint protection film is applied. Depending on its condition, preparation may include decontamination, clay bar treatment and machine polishing to avoid sealing contamination or defects beneath the protection.
